Astrov 0.2.3 - "Please choose your ship"

Greetings Pilots!

A few late night corrections and some hotfixing and we now have the current version of 0.2.3 as a result! Repeating the last devlog, this update's theme was all about the hangar module - a combined, fresh and more intuitive replacement for the old ship and loadout system we have had for a year now. Let me walk you through on what exactly this entails:

Typing in your name and selecting "Free Flight" from the main menu usually sent you to a panel with not much explanation outside of a tutorial overlay. This instead is now completely different, starting with walking you through the first steps by letting you choose the ship you will pilot, then see the camera focusing on the customization aspect of your ship. Using the mouse, you can rotate and zoom the camera to get a better view.

The spheres represent your paint scheme, while the colored boxes represent weapon hardpoints for the centered ship.

The surroundings are interactive and become highlighted when you mouse over them. One of these are six slots surrounding the center, which represent you and any wingmen that you might wish to add.

This module also supports capital ships (which can be assigned when selecting the first ship for a new hangar bay), however the station model supporting these type of ships is not yet implemented.

And finally, the large gate is your "Launch" option, leading you to back 'familiar territory'. Whenever you dock to a station, you will be greeted once more by the hangar.

I'll keep this really short, as there's not much else to add what I haven't mentioned in my previous post, but it is worth repeating that the lighting has had a large change in how it looks - and this is due to the game now using the HD Rendering Pipeline as opposed to the lightweight variant. Keep in mind that this might cause a performance hit on lower-end graphics cards.

And to end this month's post, my next order of business relies heavily on focusing specific game elements into a format fit for showcasing. How many will be implemented for next month depends on how well I will be able to do in 15 days. Work has been a bit demanding lately.

In either case, thank you for reading! See you next month!
